She said it under her breath, like something we’ve heard or known our entire lives. “It’s the wizard, not the wand, right?”

She lightly laughed under her breath and logged off our Zoom call. Hmm.

The wizard. Not the wand.

It’s you.

You’re the source of power, not what you hold in your hand, say out loud, or create.

Isn’t it easy to forget that? To get buried under the things we need to do, the outstanding tasks, returns to make, pets to feed, notes to write, and the endless piles of work that stares at you like a speeding driver in a game of chicken.

It’s YOU.

You WILL get it done. You always have, even if it wasn’t when you wanted.

In case you need it, here’s a reminder:

  • You’re doing great.
  • Job well done.
  • I’m impressed how easy you make it look (even though it’s not!).
  • Your “least” is what most wish their “most” was.
  • I’m amazed at how far you’ve come.

Last week, JD and I spent the weekend in Napa. It was a time to get outside of the business, to look IN the business.

We sipped wine, went on long walks, swam on 100-degree days, and binged on AppleTV.

We assessed the first half of 2025, and finalized plans for the next half.

I woke up early to journal on Sunday morning over a pot of french-press coffee, and when JD joined me for breakfast, I let out an audible sigh.

[This is wife code for: PLEASE ASK ME WHAT’S WRONG.]

Tell me what’s going on, he said.

I admitted to the question marks, the exclamation points, and the … that filled my pages.

The unknown, uncertain, and unrelenting.

Sometimes—even on lovely travel weekends—shadows hide in the dark corners of my mind.

Then he reminded me.

You WILL get it done. You always have, even if it wasn’t when you wanted.
