I feel like a lot of times as photographers we start to feel like the weddings we shoot are OUR weddings…which can be good and bad but I think we also need to remember that we are there to capture their day and if Grandma wants to remember her Grand Daughters wedding through her own iphone photo then we shouldnt not allow her to do that. It isnt our wedding we are just there to capture their day.

As long as I don’t have Uncle Bob following or bumping into me with his DSLR I don’t mind, I really don’t. If the bride doesn’t care whether there’s devices in their photos then who am I to complain? It’s not my day! However I do think that people misunderstand the hashtag… if you’re not friends with them you can’t see those photos!

I’m not even a photographer – actually a DJ – and I agree with J* on this, including her sign off.

My sister had an unplugged wedding for the ceremony only, which worked really well. I would obviously prefer to shoot weddings like that, but I can understand why people want their photos and I do like seeing them on Instagram in my friends’ feeds, so it’s a tough call! I agree that I would give them my honest opinion if they asked about it, but I would ask them to have it that way.

It drives me mad when a photographer demands an unplugged ceremony or tries to steer the couple towards that. It is not their decision!!

Like you, of course an unplugged ceremony would be the dream but I choose to let my couples decide and I’ll capture whatever it is they do. Because that’s my job.
